The American Frontier: An Interactive Museum
For a themed entertainment course, I was tasked with conceptualizing an interactive museum exhibit into a model. I chose to focus on the American Frontier, namely to reflect on how much the country has changed from this period as well as to promote distancing ourselves from techno-feudalism. The intent was to honor and highlight how the labor and mindset of the frontier shaped the country’s cultural identity, while acknowledging the painful erasure of the minority groups who helped make that ideal a reality. I broke the project up into two phases: ideation and sketching to modeling and defining the interactive aspects of the museum exhibit. The defining, interactive elements of the museum were rooted in the old world. Guests learning how to sew, understanding the milking process of an animal, or simulating mining for gold. These unique experiences are so far removed from current lifestyles - it is a refreshing way to understand and appreciate modern advancements that starting with individual, hard work.
Please forgive the mannequins for their immodesty - they convey scale.
